This role is ideal for graduates in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or a related scientific discipline who are interested in progressing into teacher training but would benefit from developing their classroom experience first.

The Role

As a Graduate Unqualified Science Teacher, you will become an integral member of the Science department, supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of assisting at Key Stage 5 depending on your subject specialism.

Working under the guidance of experienced teachers, you will gradually build confidence in leading lessons while supporting students’ understanding of key scientific concepts.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering engaging science lessons using established schemes of work and lesson resources.
• Supporting students in developing strong subject knowledge across Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics.
• Leading small-group intervention sessions to help raise attainment in science subjects.
• Assisting with lesson planning, practical preparation and marking where appropriate.
• Helping students develop effective revision techniques and scientific thinking skills.
• Supporting the management of classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Collaborating with the wider Science department to support student progress.

This position offers a structured and supportive pathway into teaching, allowing you to build essential classroom skills while receiving ongoing guidance from experienced educators.

Candidate Profile

The school is keen to hear from enthusiastic science graduates who are passionate about education and supporting young people in their academic development.

Successful candidates will typically demonstrate:

• A degree in a Science-related subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Relaitable Subjects), with a 2:1 or above preferred.
• Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for science education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A positive, professional and proactive approach to working in a school environment.
• The ability to build strong relationships with students and staff.
• Resilience, adaptability and a genuine interest in developing as an educator.

Previous experience working with young people—such as tutoring, mentoring or coaching—is advantageous but not essential.

Why Join This School?

This well-regarded secondary school in Brent offers a supportive and ambitious environment where graduate staff are encouraged to develop their teaching skills.

Benefits include:

• A strong and collaborative Science department with experienced mentors.
• Structured support for graduates exploring a career in teaching.
• Opportunities to observe outstanding teaching practice.
• Access to professional development and training sessions.
• Clear routes into PGCE, School Direct or other teacher training programmes.

The school has a diverse and engaged student community and a staff culture that values collaboration, high expectations and continuous professional development.
