We are seeking a compassionate and patient support worker for our daughter, she is unable to read or write, has moderate to severe hearing loss, and is not always aware of dangers around her. Our daughter experiences mood swings and requires repetition throughout the day. She values her independence but needs significant support, patience, and encouragement. She does not like to be rushed or bossed around, so understanding and patience are essential.
Her hobbies are football, and she likes anything to do with horses, loves shopping, charity shops. Not clothes shops but practical shopping. She loves looking at DVDs, music, cooking and going to the cinema.
Once she gets to know you, she is a chatterbox (but she can repeat herself a lot) and she can be a laugh/funny.
Your role will include:
- Prompting her to have the appropriate clothes for what she is doing that day.
- Brushing her hair and making sure she has done it properly. Having her bus pass and also her own money in her bag, ready for the day.
- She is wearing her hearing aids also and must have them, as sometimes she will try to get away with not wearing them.
- When our daughter wants to cook at home and cleaning up afterwards.
- To encourage her to clean her room and make her bed.
- Help with practical everyday skills, she needs prompting.
- She can be very sociable when she is in the right mood, but finds it hard to express herself, as her vocabulary is limited but is open when the family environment and people she knows are around.
- We are looking for a PA who is patient, encouraging and understanding to support our daughter, who can be complex at times, with the most important part of the role being to build a trusting relationship and simply be a supportive friend while helping her with daily activities and encouraging her independence.
Duties include:
- Personal grooming
- Other relevant duties as required
- Administration
- Housekeeping
- Shopping
- Cooking
- Transportation
- Take her to respite and pick her up
Candidate qualities:
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Honest and cheerful
- Creative
- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
- Non-smoker
- Some who is experienced with complex behaviour, motivate her and encourage her as much as possible and understand her
Additional requirements
Non-smoker due to medical reasons
