To deliver a high-quality, safe, and efficient General X-ray and DXA imaging service within Candover Radiology, ensuring excellent patient care and high diagnostic standards.
The post holder will independently assess, justify, and perform a wide range of general radiographic and DXA examinations in line with IR(ME)R, professional guidance, and departmental protocols. They will ensure images are of diagnostic quality and that patient safety, dignity, and comfort are maintained at all times.
The role involves working collaboratively with another radiographer to provide shift-based cover between 07:00 and 20:00, Monday to Friday, contributing to service continuity, staff support, and ongoing service development.
Clinical Practice
• Assess, justify, and perform General X-ray and DXA examinations in accordance with IR(ME)R, professional standards, and local protocols.
• Deliver high standards of patient care, ensuring safety, dignity, privacy, and comfort at all times.
• Confidently manage and run General X-ray and DXA lists, adapting to urgent or unplanned clinical demands.
• Accurately position patients and operate imaging equipment to achieve optimal diagnostic image quality while minimising radiation dose.

• Undertake DXA scans in accordance with national guidance and local procedures, ensuring accurate data acquisition and quality control.
• Perform daily quality assurance checks and basic equipment troubleshooting, escalating issues appropriately.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised imaging environment.

• Work effectively alongside another radiographer to ensure safe and continuous service delivery across the extended working day.
• Act as a role model for professional practice, supporting a positive learning and team culture.
• Provide advice and support to colleagues, including newly qualified staff.
• Contribute to staff induction, training, and competency assessment where required.
Service Delivery and Organisation
• Manage and prioritise clinical workload effectively within a General X-ray and DXA service.
• Demonstrate flexibility to respond to changes in service demand and patient needs.
• Contribute to service development, pathway optimisation, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure imaging rooms and equipment are safe, functional, and fit for purpose, reporting faults or risks promptly and assist with performing periodic X-ray physics QA and reject analysis
• Participate in audit and service evaluation to improve patient experience, efficiency, and safety.
Governance, Quality, and Safety
• Ensure compliance with Trust policies, professional standards, and statutory legislation.
• Actively participate in clinical governance, risk management, and incident reporting.
• Maintain confidentiality and information governance in line with Caldicott principles and data protection legislation.
• Promote infection prevention and control and safe systems of work at all times.
• Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, carers, and relatives, including those with additional needs.
• Provide clear explanations of procedures and obtain informed consent where appropriate.
• Communicate professionally with radiologists, referrers, managers, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Demonstrate empathy and reassurance when supporting anxious or distressed patients.
Information Technology and Systems
• Use Trust IT systems including PAS, CRIS, and PACS effectively.
• Ensure accurate data entry, image transfer, and record keeping.
• Use digital tools to support audit, service monitoring, and quality improvement.
Training, Audit, and Research
• Maintain personal CPD in line with HCPC requirements.
• Participate in audit and quality improvement activities relevant to General X-ray and DXA.
• Support the education and supervision of student radiographers and learners.
Sustainability and Resource Management
