Please note this is an as and when role where, depending on service demand, you will be expected to work a minimum of two days per week. You will also be required to work some weekends and evenings, providing support to the service at key times. You must be able to travel county wide.
Job Purpose
We are currently seeking competent individuals who are passionate about cycling and enjoy working with people—especially children—and who are enthusiastic about sharing their cycling skills. In this role, you will be delivering Bikeability training courses to children across Essex, as well as occasionally working with adults to help them build confidence, develop practical cycling skills, and improve their road awareness.
As part of the role, you will be expected to always adhere to road safety laws, just as you would in your everyday cycling. You will be responsible for planning and organising training sessions effectively, demonstrate reliability and good timekeeping, and maintain a strong awareness of potential hazards. Cycling experience, confidence and skill are all essential, along with the ability to create a safe, supportive learning environment for both children and adults.
You will be delivering valuable, lifelong cycling skills that will empower our learners to travel confidently, safely, and independently.
If your application is successful, you must be available to attend the full three‑day course from 29th, 30th April & 1st May 2026 (inclusive). The venue will be confirmed closer to the time. This qualification includes online modules that must be completed before attending the in‑person training days.
Locations where we are currently recruiting for:
Clacton
Harwich
Harlow
Uttlesford
Epping

Braintree
Your new role
> Deliver training in line with National Standards and the Government‑approved Bikeability scheme.

> Liaise with managers and other instructors, ensuring all sessions run to the dates and times booked with schools.
> Maintain accurate administrative records, including risk assessments, attendance registers, and client information on the online system.
> Demonstrate professionalism, including reliability and good timekeeping.
> Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.
> Engage in training and use of new technology introduced by the County Council and The Bikeability Trust.
What you will need to succeed
> Excellent communication skills.
> Experience of working with people.
> Be a regular, competent cyclist.
> Confident using IT and have access to Word and Excel.
> Ability to work with minimum supervision.
> Suitably fit to undertake training duties and supervise children.
> Ideally hold a First Aid Qualification.
> Must own or have use of a smart phone.
