We are seeking a Senior Healthcare Support Worker to work on the Discharge Lounge on a fixed term basis covering Maternity Leave.

Please note the essential criteria for appointment to Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker is NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or Care Certificate.

If no appointable candidate meeting the Band 3 essential criteria is identified, the Trust may considerappointing to a Band 2 HCSW role only where the candidate meets the Band 2 person specification and where duties and pay reflect Band 2 responsibilities.

Any appointment to Band 2 will be subject to a documented selection decision and a clear training plan to support progression to Band 3 once the mandatory qualification is achieved.

We will be looking for enthusiasm, drive and passion where the delivery of outstanding levels of care can be nurtured. You will have excellent communication skills and the flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of this busy area.

The successful candidate will be efficient, reliable and be able to work using their own initiative whilst being part of a team. You will be a motivated and confident healthcare assistant dedicated to assisting in the delivery and the development of an excellent service.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis as it has been established to provide cover for maternity leave and will end on 01/11/2026 or on the return of the substantive postholder.

Whilst this post is advertised on an acting basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future.

You will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.

1. Assist patients with the provision of washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.

2. Assist qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.

4. Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.

5. Prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken.

6. Alert the registered nurse where you notice any changes in the patient’s health and well-being or any possible risks.

7. Undertake observations/tasks such as patient temperature, weighing, fluid checks as directed

8. Ensure effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.

9. Assist with the general cleaning and re-stocking of resources where appropriate as well as cleaning and preparing patients beds.

10. Contribute to own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities.
