SEMH Teaching Assistant (Year 5 - 1:1 Support)
- Location: Rugby, CV22
- Weekly Rate: £480-£500
- Start Date: ASAP
- Hours: Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
- Contract: Long Term to Permanent
Long Term Futures are recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil with social, emotional and mental health needs at a supportive primary school in Rugby. This full-time role will involve supporting the pupil both within the classroom and through structured emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day.
The successful candidate will be patient, resilient and consistent, using a nurturing and trauma-informed approach to help the pupil engage positively in learning, regulate emotions and build confidence.
The Role:
- Provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with SEMH needs
- Support learning within lessons, adapting tasks where appropriate
- Support emotional regulation and behaviour using agreed strategies
- Build a trusted and supportive relationship with the pupil
- Encourage engagement, independence and positive behaviour
- Recognise early signs of dysregulation and respond calmly
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support staff
The Ideal Candidate:
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural or emotional needs
- A resilient, calm and patient approach when supporting pupils
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and regulation strategies
- Team Teach or THRIVE training is desirable
- Confident working in a 1:1 support role
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
