Contract: Full-time, long-term temp-to-perm (Full Academic Year)
We are seeking a resilient and confident Behaviour Mentor to provide 1:1 support for pupils with ASD, ADHD, anxiety and challenging behaviour in a supportive Birmingham SEND School.
The pupils in this school require consistent structure, strong boundaries and a calm, experienced adult who can respond confidently to behavioural incidents while maintaining a supportive and regulated learning environment. Experience supporting challenging behaviour is essential, and positive handling / restraint training is desirable for this role.
Whilst the right candidate will be firm but fair, empathy and the ability to build trusting relationships is essential.
About the Role
Working closely with class teachers, SENCo, and other professionals, your responsibilities will include but won't be limited to:
* Providing dedicated 1:1 and/or small group behaviour support throughout the school day
* Supporting pupils to regulate emotions and remain engaged in learning
* Using structured routines, clear expectations and positive reinforcement
* Implementing behaviour plans and strategies agreed by the SENCo
* Using positive handling / restraint techniques when required in line with school policy
* Supporting learning during lessons while maintaining behaviour boundaries
* Helping the pupil develop resilience, self-regulation and positive social interaction
* Monitoring behaviour and feeding back to staff to ensure consistent support
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Experience supporting pupils with SEND & SEMH
* Positive handling / restraint training ( Team Teach or similar)
* Calm, confident and able to remain regulated during behavioural incidents
* Strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills
* Able to build trust while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries
* Reliable and committed to a long-term placement
