The Band 5 Staff Nurse provides high-quality, evidence-based care from admission to discharge, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. They work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety, dignity, and person-centred care. Key duties include conducting clinical observations, administering medications (including blood products), and providing safe discharge planning.

The nurse practices in accordance with the NMC Code and Trust policies, maintaining professional accountability and engaging in ongoing professional development. They ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, infection control, and information governance standards.

Effective communication is essential; the nurse provides and receives sensitive information, documents care accurately, and liaises with patients, families, and colleagues. They may also supervise junior staff, coordinate shifts, and contribute to team meetings and case conferences.

Additionally, they support education and training by mentoring students and new staff, acting as role models. Flexibility in working patterns, including nights and weekends, is required to meet service needs.
