Job Purpose
To work as part of a team to provide high-quality early years education and care for children 0-5 years, in line with the EYFS, safeguarding requirements and the ethos of Pinxton Nursery School.

Post Objectives
To work under the guidance of the Nursery Head Teacher and Nursery Manager within the agreed system of supervision to:

Supports children’s learning, development and well-being through planned and spontaneous play experiences.

Act as a key person, building secure attachments and supporting individual needs.

To observe, assess and record children’s progress using the EYFS Guidance.

Contribute to planning, next steps based on observations.

Support children’s personal care routines, including toileting, dressing and meal times.

Promote positive behaviour and support emotional regulation.

The post holder will be expected to maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times.

To be an active member of the whole Nursery School Team.

Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
• Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to increase achievement of all pupils including, those with special educational needs and disabilities
• Prepare and maintain stimulating environment (indoors and outdoors)
• Encourage children’s language development, curiosity, and independence

Planning
• Within an agreed level of supervision or working independently use/adapt planning to support challenging teaching and learning objectives in agreed subject areas
• Develop and prepare resources for learning activities in accordance with lesson plans and responding to children’s needs
• To provide a range of stimulating activities which promote all areas of learning identified in the Early Years Foundation Stage both adult led and child initiated
• Regularly contribute towards written observation of child’s progress, whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times
• Collate evidence to support a child’s progress towards learning outcomes


Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals

• Communicate effectively with other staff members and pupils, and with parents and carers under the direction of the Childcare Manager
• With the Childcare manager and Head Teacher to keep other professionals accurately informed of performance and progress or concerns they may have about pupils they work with

• Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school
• Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues


Whole School Organisation, strategy and development
• Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the schools’ policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the schools values and vision.
• Make a positive contribution to the wider life and the ethos of the school.
Health and Safety
• Promote safety and well-being of pupils and help to safeguard pupils well-being by following the requirements of Keeping Children safe in Education and our schools child protection policy.
• Look after children who are upset or have an accident.
• Maintain a strong understanding of safeguarding and protection procedures
• Follow school policies relating to health and safety, hygiene and risk assessments
• Ensure children are supervised at all times
• Build positive relationships with parents and carers


Professional Development
• Help keep their own knowledge and understanding relevant and up to date by reflecting on their own practice, liaising with school leaders and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness
• Take opportunities to build their appropriate skills, qualifications, and or experiences needed for the role with support from the school
• Take part in the schools appraisal procedures

Personal and professional conduct
• Uphold public trust in the childcare profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behavior, within and outside the Nursery school
• Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practice of the nursery school, and maintaining high standards of attendance and punctuality
• Demonstrate positive attitudes, values and behaviours to develop and sustain effective relationships with the school community
• Respect individual differences and cultural diversity

Other Duties
• To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow the nursery schools’ policies and staff code of conduct
• To undertake other duties that are appropriate to the level of the role as directed by the head teacher.
• To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate
• To establish appropriate professional relationships with pupils, parents, staff and outside agencies


Qualifications and Experience
Essential
• Level 3 qualification in early years/childcare e.g., NVQ, CACHE, Diploma
• Sound Knowledge of the EYFS framework
• Experience working with young children in an early years setting
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection

Desirable
• Experience in a childcare setting
• Paediatric First Aid Qualification
