Crynodeb

As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.

More than your average National Trust site, Wimpole combines Hall, Gardens, Parkland and Farm in an amazing, complete working estate. The fertility of the land and ingenuity of people, over thousands of years, has made Wimpole what it is today.

We're looking for someone who will be able to deliver practical conservation work to protect and enhance the natural environment at Wimpole. You'll need to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

What it's like to work here
This impressive mansion and home farm is the only National Trust property that manages all its visitor attractions and activities in-house. Visitor numbers have increased rapidly in recent years and Wimpole is regarded as one of our most successful properties in terms of growth and innovation. As expected for such a popular location, work at Wimpole is fast-paced, but as part of the team you’ll enjoy flexible working conditions.

The 2,500-acre estate includes a wide variety of habitats including grazed historic parkland, large lakes and wetland habitats, species rich wildflower meadows, SSSI/SAC woodland, tenanted farms and cottages, in-hand arable land in addition to the newly planted areas of woodland, wood pasture and agroforestry. As one of the National Trust’s flagship properties in the East of England, we have big plans to deliver bigger, better and more joined up nature conservation and to share this work with more people than ever. We're looking for someone fantastic to help us make this happen.

What you'll be doing
You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.

You’ll be working on a wide variety of tasks across the estate which include Foresty operations using chainsaws and other machinery, hedge laying, operating tractors to manage wild flower meadows, planting trees, leading volunteer parties, maintaining fences and countryside furniture, monitoring wildlife, and assisting with the care of our conservation grazing ponies. You will be working with a small team of rangers and farm workers to help us achieve these conservation goals.

You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
