SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH) – April Start

Watford
Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity

A specialist education recruitment agency is currently seeking a resilient and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support a small specialist SEN school in Watford, starting in April.

This school supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and the role requires someone who is confident working in challenging but highly rewarding environments. The school offers a supportive staff team and a structured approach to behaviour management, but the work can be demanding, so previous experience in a similar setting is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in lessons.
Build positive and trusting relationships with students to promote learning and wellbeing.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement individual learning and behaviour plans.
Encourage positive social interaction and personal development.

Requirements

Previous experience working with SEMH, behavioural needs, or in a specialist SEN environment.
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
Patient, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure.
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, youth work, or SEN support are desirable but not essential.
An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).

Benefits

Competitive daily pay rates.
Opportunity to work in a specialist SEN setting with a supportive team.
Access to ongoing training and professional development.
Dedicated support from an experienced education recruitment consultant.
Potential for long-term placement or permanent opportunities.
