Neway International are seeking a Targeted Support Officer to join our client based with Lewisham Council.
Location: 1 Catford Road, Catford, London, SE6 4RU
Hours: 35 per week (term‑time only)
Start Date: 16/03/2026
Duration: 6 months
Pay Rate: £143.85 PAYE per day / £189.16 Umbrella per day
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
About the Client
Lewisham Council’s Education Services team supports schools across the borough to improve outcomes for children and young people. This role sits within the targeted attendance support function, created in response to statutory changes under the Working Together to Improve Attendance guidance.
The Role
The Targeted Support Officer will lead termly targeted support meetings with schools, providing expert advice on attendance, policy development, and casework. You will work closely with schools, LA colleagues, and partner agencies to identify pupils at risk of poor attendance and agree targeted actions to improve outcomes.
This role is predominantly school‑based, with Fridays required in the office.
Key Responsibilities
Leading targeted support meetings with schools and partner agencies
Providing advice and guidance on attendance policy and case management
Analysing attendance data to identify vulnerable pupils and cohorts
Supporting schools to reduce persistent and severe absence
Ensuring actions and plans are agreed, recorded, and monitored
Promoting pupils’ right to education through early identification and intervention
Working collaboratively across Education Services and wider agencies
Candidate Requirements
Proven experience in school attendance within a school or local authority setting
Strong understanding of attendance legislation, processes, and best practice
Confident analysing data to inform targeted interventions
Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
Ability to work across multiple school sites
Strong organisational and administrative skills
Term‑time only availability
