What skills and experience we're looking for
Responsibilities: Supporting the class teacher in delivering the curriculum, engaging with children in learning activities, and promoting a positive learning environment.
JOB PURPOSE:To work under the instruction/guidance of Teachers and Senior Leadership to provide a positive learning environment for all thepupilsin the school. Towork with individual pupils and groups to supervise physical/general care of pupils, including those with an Individual Education Plan. To undertake work,careandsupport programmes to enable access to learning for all pupils and toassistthe class teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.Toestablisha supportive relationship with learners.
LEARNING SUPPORT:
Whole class provision
• Support pupils in class using specialist skills,knowledgeand experience.
• Clarify and explaininstructions to thepupilsto aid themto learn as effectively as possible, both in small group situations and individually asrequired, whilst encouraging independence.
• To implement group and individual programmes as directed by the teacher.
• Supervise and engage with pupils during designated breaks and lunch time periods by creating and supporting play activities.
• Assistin the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the Head teacher, SENDCo and class teachers.
Working one to one with SEND pupils:
• Toacquireand draw upon the knowledge of differing types of special needsin order todevelop an understanding of the specific needs of the learner.
• To take account ofany SpecialEducational Needs and to aid the learner to learn effectively.
• To support the learner in non-educational activities.Assistin the implementation of Individual Education Plans for pupils and helpmonitorprogress under the direction and guidance of the SENDCo.
• Liaisewith teaching staff to deviseappropriate strategiesas outlined inapupilsEducational Health Care Plan.
• Contributing to reviews of thepupils’progress through monitoring and evaluating, providing feedback, observations, etc.
• Liaise,adviseand consultwith others including colleagues, external agencies/professionals, etcin order tosupport the pupil.
CLASSROOM SUPPORT:
• Toassistthe class teacher (and other professionals asappropriate)in the organisation of activities and materials.
• To prepare materialsand resourcesfor use in the classroom and ensurepupilsare able touse theequipment/resources and materialsprovided.
• To support class teachers to reproduce learning materials including, use of photocopiers,laminatorsor other office equipment. Filing and other jobs toassistthe smooth running of the school.
• To prepare andmaintaindisplay areas under the guidance of teaching staff ensuring that displays are tidy and promote a positive image to all pupils and reflects the values of the school.
• Assistclass teachers withmaintainingpupil records and provide regular feedback about the pupils to the teachers.
• Toestablishgood relationships with pupils, acting as a role model, being aware of and responding toindividual needs.
• Support pupils with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their self –esteem
• Provide support forindividual pupils inside and outside of the classroom to enable them to fullyparticipatein activities.
• Work with other professionals, such as speechand language and/or occupational therapists, as necessary.
• To respond to the welfare needs of pupils by supporting them and reporting any concerns about the general well-being of pupils to the class teacher. Toidentifyany injuries to pupils and ensure ifappropriate thatthey are taken to the designated first aider.
• Toparticipatein the evaluation of the support programmesin placee.gattending meetings in school time.
• Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development, asrequired.
STANDARDS AND QUALITY ASSURANCE:
• To arrive at school at least 10 minutes before the session starts, to enable effective communication to take place.
• Tomaintaintotal confidentiality at all times.
• To be aware of anduphold the schoolproceduresand policies (especially Behaviourand Child Protection) at all times.
• Support the aims and ethos of a Church of England School.
• Tomaintaina professional relationship with parents/careers in all matters concerning the pupils and the school.
• To attend relevant in-service training. This may be school orLDBS/LA based and implement guidance.
• Attend team and staff meetings
• Undertake duties that may bereasonably assignedby the Head Teacher

• Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g.Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies
• Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school

• To deal with sickness and minor accidents andrecordas necessary.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
• Help keep their own knowledge and understanding relevant andup-to-dateby reflecting on their own practice, liaising with school leaders, andidentifyingrelevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness
• Take opportunities to build theappropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school
• Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures
