Join us at Stockport Council MJ Local Authority of the Year 2025

About the project

The Greater Manchester Toddler Mental Health Hub is a two year, GMCA funded test and learn project, hosted by Stockport Council on behalf of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

The project focuses on understanding and improving the social, emotional and mental health of toddlers aged 25 years and their families. Working across all ten Greater Manchester boroughs, the Hub will collaborate closely with families and the early years workforce to scope need, test innovative and evidence based approaches, and strengthen early support for toddlers and parents.

The Hub will act as a specialist GM wide resource, providing workforce development and training focused on toddler development, attachment, and early social and emotional wellbeing. Through co production with families and practitioners, the project will contribute to the design of a sustainable Greater Manchester model for toddler and parent mental health.

The Hub will be delivered by a small, specialist team comprising the clinical and strategic lead, this post, and an assistant practitioner.

Who the role is for

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and skilled Mental Health Practitioner with a strong commitment to improving the mental health and wellbeing of toddlers and their families, to help develop a modern and inclusive Greater Manchester Toddler and Parent Mental Health Hub.

This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of designing and delivering an innovative service model for working with toddlers aged 25 years and their parents across Greater Manchester. Working closely with the clinical and strategic lead, you will act as a senior practitioner within a small specialist team, providing clinical leadership and being supported by an assistant practitioner.

If you are passionate about toddler mental health, value evidence based and relational practice, and are motivated to support families and the wider workforce to better understand this critical and often complex stage of life, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful GM wide impact.

The Role

Working under the strategic direction of the GM Clinical and Strategic Lead, this senior practitioner role supports the development, delivery and evaluation of the two year Greater Manchester ParentToddler Mental Health Hub. The post promotes an inclusive, evidence informed approach to toddler mental health across Greater Manchester, strengthening pathways and building workforce capacity in partnership with early years services.

Key responsibilities include coordinating operational delivery; raising awareness of toddler mental health; supporting scoping, co design and model development; coordinating assessment, intervention and consultation; contributing to pathway improvement aligned to Best Start in Life; leading workforce development; and supporting evaluation, research, reporting and governance.

About You

You must hold a core professional qualification (e.g. Psychology, Health Visiting, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, qualified mental health nurse) with relevant professional registration, alongside postgraduate training in psychological therapies for children aged 05 years.

Additional training in early childhood mental health or attachment is desirable.

You will have experience of assessment, intervention and risk management with toddlers and their families, including safeguarding practice, and experience of supervision, training and service development. A strong understanding of toddler development, attachment, trauma, early relationships, evidence based approaches and early years systems is essential.

You will bring excellent communication, assessment, intervention, organisational and IT skills, with the ability to work autonomously, manage emotional complexity in clinical contexts, and give and receive clinical supervision.
