There is an exciting job opportunity for a Band 7 Ward Manager Role at the Hawthorn Intermediate Care Unit(HICU), this role is an opportunity to build upon or develop your Management Leadership Skills alongside the Ward Matron in a Multidisciplinary Team of Ward Sisters/Charge Nurse, Registered Nurses, Health Care Support Workers, Therapist, Pharmacist and Care of the Elderly Medical Cover form the Local Acute Hospital.
HICU is based in Hillingdon within the Grounds of The Hillingdon Hospital, its bright, airy modern building offers a superb opportunity to work alongside a strong, passionate Multi Disciplinary Team working together to provide excellent patient care to optimise the patient’s outcome & experience. HICU is a Physical Rehabilitation Unit who offers a 2/3 week’s Inpatient Bed Stay to work towards their Rehabilitation/Therapy Goals.
We are looking for a person who has strong Leadership Skills to deliver their best to optimise the Quality of Care being delivered to our patients and to build a good professional working relationship within the Team built on Trust, Compassion and Ethos. The person needs to be able to empower the staff through areas of Learning & Development to enable the staff to deliver high quality care to patients and offer carers & families support & guidance during the admission period.
The person will need to be able to prioritise standards of care during their Clinical Day and review any concerns or areas of learning and address these immediately to the importance of Quality Care and Learning for our Colleagues. Reviewing Skill Mixing throughout each & every shift to establish the Safety for all patients and our Staff, applying areas of Learning & Development when required.
Close attention to Rosta’s to enable Safer Staffing and Annual Leave/Sickness Policies and being able to delegate to Band 6 Ward Sisters/Charge Nurse when required.
Managing the Unit’s Monthly Audits and delegating duties accordingly, learning from the results of the Audits and promoting the learning is built into the Unit’s Structure so that the Audits will continue to improve.
The Person will be requested to be Clinical through their Shift Pattern(one day a week) to be part of the Unit’s Safer Staffing Numbers. This will allow their presence and Team Work within the Unit to build strong relationships with Staff, Patients & Families/Carers.
The Main Duties of the Ward Manager Role with be split between Managerial and Clinical, this is to build a good Clinical Working Relationship with your peers and build a Strong Presence with the Patients and their Families/Carers.
The position is Unit Based and will be working Monday – Friday alongside the Ward Matron, Ward Sisters/Charge Nurse, Health Care Support Workers, Therapy Lead, Pharmacist & Medical Cover.
Promoting excellent Leadership Skills to the Junior Team and supporting the Ward Matron for the delivery of Quality & Patient Safety through monitoring Clinical Outcomes and Patient Experience.
Reviewing and Health Rosta’s to make sure that Skill Mixing is satisfactory and the Unit runs smoothly and safely. Able to discuss a review of the Rosta if there are gaps through Sick Leave, Annual Leave by reviewing the Budget of Bank Shifts Booked, to delegate this accordingly to be reviewed in a time effective manner.
The Ward Manager will also be responsible to monitor Quality & Clinical Performance Indicators through the Unit’s KPI’s maintaining that these are kept to a satisfactory level. Reviewing and assessing Referrals so that they are admitted to the Unit in a timely manner to support the Patient and the Staff. Maintaining good relationships with the Acute Integrated Discharge Teams to offer an effective admission protocol within the Units Criteria.
Supporting the Staff at all levels and paying attention to their Supervision and Appraisal needs, supporting them with their Clinical Development and finding solutions for staff who require additional Clinical Learning Support/Needs through LDZ and support from the Learning & Development Team when/if required.
Being supportive, professional and confidential to staff through areas such as Sickness Management & other Standard Policies through signposting them to other services for help/advice such as Occupational Health, Human Resources & Speak Up Guardian.
