TITLE: Deputy Manager RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager / Company Director.

This is a long term position with progression possibilities.
Applicants are expected to have a full and relevant Early Years qualification at level 3 or above and valid experience for this role.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To lead the staff team in collaboration with the Manager to ensure that the setting consistently provides safe, high-quality care, play and education without bias or discrimination for children aged between 2 and 11 years.

MAIN DUTIES:
~ To provide high quality care and enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age within the framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
~ To support the Manager, to manage the Nursery, pre-school and out of school groups in and out of the setting, ensuring that the safety and well being of the children is paramount.
~ To take on full responsibility for the setting, children, staff and decision making in the Manager’s absence.
~ To promote the ethos and culture of the setting.
~ To protect and strengthen the reputation of the setting.
~ To ensure that all current legislation, for example, all Health and Safety, safeguarding, employment and EYFS legislation, is adhered to.
~ To develop and maintain strong relationships with parents and carers, external professionals and the school.
~ To lead by example, manage & support the staff team to ensure that:
• Children’s personal, social and emotional skills are extended by giving them the opportunity to socialise with other children and adults.
• Children are able to learn by exploration and experimentation, developing knowledge, understanding and skills in a wide range of areas within a safe, secure and stimulating environment.
• The setting is all inclusive which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and families.
• The setting works in partnership with parents, carers and families
• Safeguarding policies and practices are strictly adhered to.
• All current legislation, practices 7 policies are adhered to.

This will include;
o Treating all individuals associated with the group with respect, kindness and consideration.
o Making a commitment to equality and diversity; seeking out information to provide the setting with a full understanding of the concepts to enable it to uphold the group’s dedication to inclusivity.
o Teaching the children, offering a suitable level of supervision, support and stimulation.
o Assessing, evaluating and monitoring the children's progress and needs.
o Ensuring spot, short and long observations are recorded daily and that all staff are up to date with the records for their key children.
o Overseeing the planning; providing activity ideas, evaluations and next step plans within the requested time frame.
o Evaluating the effectiveness of the EYFS, policies and routines.
o Keeping all records up to date.
o Keeping all information regarding the children, their parents, the staff and the group that is learned through the job, completely confidential.
o Ensure that the group’s policies and procedures are adhered to by all staff, students and visitors always.
o Ensure that the preparation, provision and clearing away of daily activities including baking, messy play, outdoor activities is carried out effectively.
o Ensure that the preparation, service, supervision and clearing away of all food and all cleaning is done to the required standards.
o Ensure that all play areas, equipment and resources are checked before and after every use and are safe for the children to use.
o Ensure the supervision of the children on all out of premise visits meets appropriate ratio requirements for their safety and well-being.
o Contribute to and lead staff meetings, organise and attend training sessions and attend additional training courses as required.
o Be responsible for your own personal development; reflecting upon your attitude and practices, reading up on new legislations, requirements and best practices which influence your own working.
o Being a positive role model, leading from the front.
