Crynodeb
We are seeking an AAT Qualified / Part Qualified Accountant or equivalent (or qualified by experience) to join our busy and growing practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of year-end accounts, tax returns, and management reports for a varied portfolio of SME clients, including limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships. As we are a small team this is a hands-on role requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting other team members.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Preparation
• Prepare annual financial statements for limited companies (majority FRS105), partnerships, and sole traders in accordance with UK GAAP.
• Produce working papers and lead schedules to support final accounts.
• Liaise with clients to obtain information and resolve queries in a timely manner.
Tax Compliance
• Prepare and submit corporation tax (CT600), personal tax (Self-Assessment) returns, and MTD returns.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing partnership tax computations and returns.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC filing deadlines and maintain accurate records.
Bookkeeping and VAT
• Review client bookkeeping records prepared internally or by clients.
• Review and assist with preparation of VAT returns under various schemes (Standard, Flat Rate, Cash Accounting).
• Provide bookkeeping for a range of clients using cloud-based systems such as Xero, QuickBooks,or Sage
Payroll & Pensions
• Provide cover for payroll processing during staff absences, ensuring accurate and timely submissions under RTI.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with PAYE, pension, and statutory requirements.
Management Accounts and Support
• Assist in the preparation of management accounts, cashflow forecasts, and other adhoc financial reports.
• Provide support to senior staff in client advisory work, budget analysis, and business planning.
Other Duties
• Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues to deliver high-quality service.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards, tax legislation, and compliance requirements.
• Contribute to process improvements and development of accounting systems.
• Work effectively as part of a small team, taking on whatever tasks are needed
Skills and experience
Essential
• Fully AAT qualified (Level 4 or equivalent) or QBE.
• Proven experience in an accountancy practice environment.
• Sound knowledge of accounting, VAT and tax principles.
• Experience with cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent).
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage client relationships.
• High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Working as part of a team.
• Bookkeeping experience.
Desirable
• Knowledge of corporation tax and personal tax software (e.g., Taxfiler, Taxcalc, Xero
• tax or similar).
• Payroll experience.
• Working within a practice environment.
