Crynodeb
We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our established Occupational Therapy Team at the Woodlands Unit. The unit has two adult mental health wards and this role will be embedded on Millbrook Ward but will work across the unit collaboratively with OT colleagues to provide Occupational Therapy Activities of Daily Living assessments, treatment and intervention on an individual and group basis.
The Occupational Therapy Team consists of a Band 7 and a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, alongside two Occupational Therapy Assistants. The team work closely with Psychiatry, Nursing and Psychological Therapies and out community partners to ensure quality interventions and a safe and timely discharge back to the community for service users.
• To work with service users to identify OT goals as part of the multi-disciplinary care plan, using specialist mental health & OT assessment tools & treatment techniques
• To work with service users in a variety of settings in order to provide the most effective assessment & interventions
• To plan & implement service user led individual and/or group interventions, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals
• To ensure service users health, social, cultural and spiritual needs are considered at all times
• To assess for and provide equipment to enhance independence in daily living skills for service users with a physical disability in addition to their mental health needs
• To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and identify outcomes
• To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on life skills to maximise functional ability
• To assess the occupational needs of service users and establish and evaluate appropriate treatment interventions
• To identify appropriate & inappropriate referrals and prioritise workload
• To manage effective discharge ensuring service user and all relevant agencies are given relevant information
• To contribute to and carry out risk assessment & risk management plans

• This role is suitable for qualified occupational therapists, registered with the HCPC and with 2-yrs relevant post-qualification mental health experience. Experience in working with patients in the acute stages of illness or with patients experiencing a mental health crisis is regarded as a bonus.
• To work as a member of the MDT
• To support the development of evidence-based OT practice within this role
• To provide OT specific assessment & interventions related to self-care, leisure and work, as well as with regards to coping and life skills.
• To engage in developing the OT service within this setting.
• To contribute to service development and take on teaching responsibilities
• To participate in research/audit activities and quality improvement projects
• To supervise the work of OT students on fieldwork placement
• Contribute to and carry out risk assessment & risk management plans
• To provide specialist OT advice to the MDT
• To work independently without direct supervision
• To follow an agreed job plan
• To engage in OT group supervision
• You will have a good level of reading and writing skills in English, and be fluent in speaking and understanding spoken English.
• You will take responsibility for your own professional development and registration with the HCPC.
• You will be resilient and able to manage your stress levels in a healthy and constructive manner.
• You will support the team manager in investigating incidents and complaints.
