Working pattern/hours: Full time, 35 hours per week

Salary: Up to £40,000, depending on skills and experience.

Support and guide the next generation of plumbing professionals

Do you want to play an important role in shaping the future of the plumbing and heating industry? As a Plumbing Training Officer, you’ll combine assessment, mentoring, and coaching to help apprentices develop the technical skills, professional standards, and personal qualities they need to succeed.

This is a field-based role where you’ll visit apprentices in their workplaces, build strong relationships with employers, and ensure all parties work together to achieve the very best outcomes. You’ll see the impact of your support first-hand as your apprentices grow in skill, confidence, and professionalism, making this a role that is both challenging and deeply rewarding.

About the role
You’ll be responsible for monitoring and assessing apprentices throughout their Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician apprenticeship, ensuring they develop the full range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard.

Your role will also involve coaching apprentices to overcome challenges, guiding them towards professional excellence, and working closely with employers so they understand progress and how to further support development. Safeguarding and health & safety are at the heart of everything you do, ensuring every apprentice learns in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.

You’ll:

Visit apprentices in their workplaces to assess progress against the apprenticeship standard and industry expectations.
Use a variety of assessment methods to evaluate competence, identify areas for improvement, and adapt your approach to meet individual needs.
Provide clear, constructive, and developmental feedback to help apprentices consolidate learning and achieve their best possible outcomes.
Coach apprentices to develop the professional behaviours, resilience, and problem-solving skills needed for success in the workplace.
Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, keeping them informed of progress and agreeing actions to support ongoing development.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of progress, attendance, and assessment results, producing reports as required.
Embed employability skills, British values, equality and diversity, safeguarding, and health and safety into all aspects of assessment and coaching.
Take proactive responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of apprentices, as well as ensuring their health and safety at all times in the workplace.
Keep your industry knowledge and technical skills current through CPD, trade engagement, and contact with employers.

What we’re looking for:

Level 3 plumbing qualification (or equivalent) with strong technical knowledge and industry experience.
GCSE/O-Level Maths and English (A–C, 9–4) or Level 2 equivalent.
Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills.
Commitment to your own ongoing professional development.
Desirable:

Assessor qualifications (D32, D33, A1, or TAQA).
Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely).
Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or equivalent teaching qualification, or willingness to achieve this.
Internal Verifier qualifications (D34, V1, or TAQA).
