Consultant Paediatrician

(with a special interest in Neurodisability)

Joint Post – NELFT & Great Ormond Street Hospital

CONTRACT: 10 Programmed Activities (10 PAs) Flexible working available

BASE: 79 Axe Street, Barking, Essex IG11 7LZ

This post is joint Consultant Paediatrician position in the Barking and Dagenham Community Team, based at 79 Axe Street, Barking, IG11 7LZ and Neuro disability Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

This is a full-time post of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).

This is a newly created post, following investment by the place based ICB to support the increased demand on Community Paediatric services. A lot of transformation has taken place already and continues to take place in Barking and Dagenham community babies, children, and young people services. This post is currently vacant, and we wish to recruit substantively to this post as soon as possible.

This joint Consultant Paediatrician post for Children & Young People will enable the transfer of specialist skills in Neurodisability (movement disorder), streamline Neurodisability pathways across both organizations, support recruitment, and deliver training to existing and new staff members. This initiative aligns with the NHS Long Term Plan to bring healthcare closer to the communities we serve.

There is no on call requirement at night, although the post holder will participate in a daytime on-call rota 9am - 5pm to deliver child protection medical examinations.

The expectation of the post holder will be to support their team, department and organisation to follow the Trust’s Values in their day-to-day work.

● We are kind

● We are respectful

● We work with our communities

GOSH values are also expected:

· Always welcoming

· Always helpful

· Always expert

· Always one team

The successful candidate will work as part of a fully integrated multidisciplinary specialist team providing care to children and young people with health needs, across Barking & Dagenham. The successful applicant will also become part of a large (30+ community paediatricians), dynamic, community paediatric team, across the whole of North East London Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will provide senior medical support to the team, and direct input on clinical cases. The consultant will be expected to provide guidance and supervision to the team, work directly with babies, children, and young people (and their families), and liaise as appropriate with other external health providers, and acute hospitals.

This post provides unique opportunity for the post holder to further develop links already established with the Tertiary and local acute trusts, in order to deliver specialist services within the community. There are existing close links with the acute paediatric department at King George Hospital (Ilford) and Queens Hospital (Romford) alongside Tertiary colleagues at the Royal London and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The postholder will spend one day / week (2PAs) with the Movement Disorder Service at GOSH (part of the Wolfson Neurodisability Service) joining a morning clinic and then participating in educational activities/ administration in the afternoon. We hope that through this, local networks can be strengthened and delivery of care enhanced.
