There is an exciting opportunity to join the Sustainable Travel Team, working predominantly in the Public Transport workstream. This role will support the delivery of improvements to public transport in the county.
Leicestershire has a good commercial bus network, complemented by local bus services tendered by the Sustainable Travel Team including FoxConnect and taxi-based demand responsive transport services. Additional government funding will further support improvements to public transport information and infrastructure.
About the Role
2 Permanent positions available - 1 FTE (37 hours per week) & 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week)
A key part of this role is to carry out a range of tasks relating to the Bus Service Improvement Plan, tendered bus services, information provision, bus stop infrastructure along with supporting other areas of the team such as active travel and public rights of way.
Some of the main duties will include:
- Managing budget (capital and revenue) and programme of bus service improvement projects.
- Responding to queries from members of the public, elected Members and other interested parties in a constructive and professional manner.
- Responding to the impact of roadworks on local bus services including procurement of alternative transport and information provision as appropriate
- Assist with the administration of Bus Service Registrations and in reporting changes to the network, analysing usage and proposing actions.
- Liaise with schools, businesses, police, bus operators, elected Members and other interested parties to assist in the provision of appropriate information and promotion to raise awareness of active and sustainable travel, travel planning and passenger transport, including assistance with the promotion of the PROW network, cycling, bus use, community transport and car sharing.
- Support the delivery and implementation of sustainable travel planning obligations as stipulated in Section 106 Agreements and comment in response to planning application consultations for minor and major developments.
- Responsible for the effective management of transport databases ensuring data is accurately maintained, including extraction and manipulation of data.

About You
To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject area Or Demonstrable work experience in a public focused business.
- Have experience of using Microsoft Word, Access Excel or equivalent packages to a high standard. Good numerical and problem-solving ability.
- To be self-motivated, able to manage a varied workload working to tight timescales. Demonstrable ability to use own initiative and to supervise the work of others.
- Problem solving skills, and collecting, collating, and manipulating statistical information/data.
- Good written and verbal communication skills demonstrating tact, assertiveness and diplomacy being politically aware. Demonstrable customer focused approach where the customer experience is central to the delivery of the service.
- Full and valid driving licence and able to travel for business purposes including having access to a vehicle.
- Building positive relationships across stakeholders, peers and partners, creating open and transparent relationships based on trust.
