Associate Cover Lecturer

Bank Contract | Hours as agreed with line manager(s)
Salary: £21.10 per hour (£18.69 + £2.41 holiday pay)

Plumpton College is seeking adaptable, enthusiastic and committed Associate Cover Lecturers to deliver high‑quality lessons across a range of curriculum areas.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy working flexibly, supporting teaching and learning, and making a positive impact on students’ educational experience.

About the Role

As an Associate Cover Lecturer, you will provide essential support by delivering pre‑planned lessons during staff absences. Working across multiple curriculum areas, you will help maintain continuity of learning and uphold the College’s high teaching standards.

You will work closely with Curriculum Managers, Assistant Curriculum Managers and the HR team, ensuring cover is well organised, effective and aligned with departmental needs.

This is a Bank role, and hours worked will be on an as and when basis to meet the needs of the Department. Standard College working hours are 8.30 - 5.00 and shifts allocated in this role will usually fall during this period.

You will:

Deliver high‑quality cover lessons to a consistently good or outstanding standard.

Supervise classes, allocate and explain cover work, and support students throughout lessons.

Utilise centralised resources and materials provided by the curriculum teams.

Report any issues with cover work, including quality or suitability, to Curriculum Managers.

Communicate effectively with staff to ensure consistency and continuity of learning.

Complete registers promptly and report student absence in line with College policy.

Follow the College’s behaviour management and safeguarding procedures.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teaching a variety of subjects, thrives in a dynamic environment, and is confident managing mixed‑ability groups.

About You

We are looking for confident, flexible and proactive individuals with a passion for education and supporting student success.

Essential:

PGCE or Level 4+ teaching qualification (or equivalent).

Ability to deliver lessons across a wide range of curriculum areas.

Strong classroom management skills and confidence supporting mixed‑ability learners.

Experience working with students in an educational setting.

Competence in MS Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams.

Good understanding of SEND and inclusive classroom practice.

Excellent communication, organisation and time‑management skills.

Ability to supervise learners aged 14–16 and 16+.

Experience of, or familiarity with, the further education environment.

Desirable:

Experience leading cover or supervising learners in a classroom setting.

Ability to work effectively as part of a wider teaching team.

You will be professional, adaptable and student‑focused, with a commitment to delivering high‑quality learning experiences.
