SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary role starting as soon as possible until May half term

Leaders work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams to ensure pupils feel safe, listened to, and encouraged to re-engage positively with learning. Pupils respond well to patient, relationship-focused approaches that help them manage emotions, build confidence, and make steady personal and academic progress.

Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil
  • Use de-escalation and regulation strategies to maintain a safe environment
  • Assist with personalised learning, engagement and emotional support
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement behaviour plans
  • Support the pupil through transitions and daily routines
  • Promote positive behaviour and model calm, consistent approaches
  • Contribute to tailored interventions and targeted support sessions
  • Uphold safeguarding expectations and prioritise pupil welfare

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Strong experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
  • Confident in managing severe challenging behaviour in a 1:1 context
  • Calm, resilient and able to build trust with hard-to-reach pupils
  • Skilled in de-escalation, emotional regulation, support and structured routines
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Able to follow guidance while using initiative where appropriate
  • Reliable, proactive and committed to supporting pupil progress
