Community Nursery Nurses work as a member of the Hillingdon 0-19 Service in the delivery of health education/health promotion whilst supporting the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to families in the borough of Hillingdon. They work closely with children and families who use our services and play an important contribution in our team as well as how people experience our services.

Working in a skill mixed team, Community Nursery Nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
• Working in conjunction with Health Visitors to formulate care plans for a programme of intervention to be carried out either at home or clinic settings.
• Providing feedback to the Health Visitor when concerns have been identified during contacts with families.
• Participating in the Healthy Child programme under direction of the Health Visitor.
• Supporting in the running of clinics, facilitating developmental reviews and growth monitoring as required.
• Independently carry out developmental reviews in the clinic or home setting: assessing cognitive and language development, hearing, vision fine and gross motor skills, emotional and social development.
• Providing appropriate health promotion, parenting advice and childcare advice to parents and carers when necessary.
• Referring to other agencies such as Speech and Language Therapists, Early support, Audiologist and other child development specialists.

Community Nursery Nurses are expected to be competent and confident and will have previous experience of working with children before coming into post. They contribute to the effectiveness of services by:
• Supporting the planning, organisation and delivery of defined aspects of the healthy child programme, including health reviews, parenting support and home visiting.
• Working with children and families in the assessment of their health and well-being and making referrals as appropriate under the supervision of the health visiting and school nursing teams.
• Developing and contributing to parenting support groups.
• Support the teams in planning programmes of care to promote positive outcomes for children and families, including those requiring a higher level of health promotion or preventative intervention.
• Communicating effectively with other members of the team regarding the management of individual clients and issues relating to service delivery.
• Working with health visitors and school nursing in regard to safeguarding children and families
• Referring to other teams or services as appropriate.
• Contributing to creating and maintaining high performing teams by:• communicating well with all members of the team
• understanding their role, responsibilities in the team, and how they help the team achieve its’ objectives
• Reflecting on their own practice regularly
• identifying how care could be improved.
