The Department for Transport’s Group Human Resources Directorate provides essential services that enable the department and its Agencies to deliver their priorities. The directorate supports a wide range of HR activity, from workforce planning and people change initiatives to governance, performance and financial administration. Within HR Operations, the Strategy, Planning and Performance team acts as a central coordination point for the whole directorate, ensuring programmes, resources and reporting are effectively managed.

The team oversees key functions including HR delivery planning, risk and performance reporting, maintenance of PMO tools and templates, headcount and budget management, and business administration. It also supports HR governance boards and cross‑directorate commissions, working closely with colleagues across HR, DfT and its Agencies such as DVLA, DVSA, MCA, VCA and ATE. This collaborative, fast‑paced team plays a vital role in ensuring HR activities are well‑planned, well‑governed and aligned to departmental priorities

The HR PMO and Business Management Support Officer support the effective planning, tracking and delivery of HR activities across the directorate. Working within the Strategy, Planning and Performance team, the role provides governance support, maintains PMO tools, monitors milestones, and coordinates data for departmental commissions. It also delivers vital business administration, including finance tasks, headcount reporting and stakeholder coordination, helping ensure HR operations run efficiently in a fast‑paced environment

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Provide governance and coordination support for HR meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, tracking actions and managing scheduling.
  • Support HR planning and delivery by using PMO tools, updating milestone and risk trackers, and gathering data for departmental commissions.
  • Support and maintain corporate activities and business administration services, such as finance requisition processes, workforce information and reward and recognition payments.
  • Build effective relationships across HR, other DfT teams and Agencies to ensure smooth coordination of activities and effective delivery of HR priorities
