Children's Support Worker → School-Based ALN Role
Barry
£92 - £100 per day
Full-time & part-time | Long-term opportunities | Immediate and September starts | Term-time only

Have you worked as a Support Worker, Care Assistant or in a role supporting people with additional needs, and ever considered taking those skills into a school?

We are currently supporting several ALN schools and specialist provisions in Barry who are looking for caring, reliable support staff to work with pupils who need additional help to access education. These pupils may have needs such as Autism (ASD), profound or multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), complex learning difficulties, sensory processing challenges, physical disabilities, behavioural regulation needs or medical requirements.

The schools are keen to meet people who already have experience supporting others - whether that's in residential care, healthcare, community support or similar environments. If you've worked as a support worker, healthcare assistant, behaviour support worker, complex care assistant or mental health support worker, many of the skills you've developed transfer incredibly well into education.

In this role you'll be working closely with teachers and specialist staff to support pupils either one-to-one or within small classes, helping them stay engaged, regulated and confident throughout the school day. Depending on the setting, the role may also involve supporting personal care routines, helping pupils with mobility or sensory needs, and providing calm and consistent emotional support so that pupils feel safe and able to learn.

Many people who move from care into education say they value the structured routine and work-life balance. School hours are typically 8:30am to 3:30pm during term time, meaning no sleep-ins, no long shifts and a consistent daily routine.

These are long-term roles where schools want to build strong relationships between staff and pupils, so reliability, patience and a positive approach are essential.

About Educators First

Educators First works closely with ALN schools across South Wales, helping them find the right support staff for their classrooms. Our focus is on placing people into roles where they can genuinely make a difference while feeling supported themselves.

When working with us you can expect weekly pay, ongoing support from a dedicated consultant, clear communication, safeguarding guidance and opportunities for long-term placements within schools.

Schools are currently arranging interviews over the coming weeks as they prepare for both immediate vacancies and September intake, so early applications are encouraged.

If you have experience supporting individuals with ASD, PMLD or complex needs and are interested in taking those skills into a school environment, we would love to hear from you.
