What skills and experience we're looking for

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our English Department. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed teacher of English to join our successful and forward-thinking English Team from September 2026.

Located on the outskirts of Brighton, Patcham High is vibrant, proud and successful. We have an unshakeable faith in the power of high-quality teaching and want the very best for all our students.

This is a position for a person capable of making an impact; passionate about education and relentless in the pursuit of improved standards and outcomes for learners in English. We are looking for a teacher with:

• A track record of success in enabling attainment and achievement.
• High expectations which inspire, enthuse, motivate and challenge students.
• Readiness to teach Y7-11.
• A commitment to mixed attainment teaching across KS3 and 4.
• Creditability as a classroom practitioner.
• Grit and resilience.

In joining Patcham High you will find a creative and supportive culture within a school that is hugely aspirational. We place great importance on positive relationships, teamwork and a ‘can do attitude’. We believe that we are at the cutting edge and, with exciting challenges ahead, this is a brilliant time to join the school. We offer a generous pension scheme, staff discounts available through the school, travel to work and cycle to work schemes, gym membership, CPD opportunities and more.

We welcome applications from colleagues who are determined to make a difference.

To apply please download the application form from the school’s website https://www.patchamhigh.brighton-hove.sch.uk/schoolinformation/vacancies/ and email to Elise Holmes, PA to Headteacher eholmes@patchamhigh.org.uk If you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit please contact Elise either by email or by telephone (01273 543484).

Patcham High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.

We welcome applications from all parts of our community as we aspire to have a staff body that matches the social and cultural diversity of our student intake. We are open to flexible working. This post is suitable for both ECTs and experienced teachers.

*We reserve the right to interview on application should a suitable candidate become available and we have the right to withdraw this advert prior to the closing date.
