Working Model: Hybrid (4 days in office initially, reducing after probation)
I am recruiting for an Assistant Management Accountant who will support the finance function across two construction businesses and one construction retail division. This is a key role working closely with the Group Financial Controller to deliver accurate financial reporting, strong controls, and valuable commercial insights.
Purpose of the Role
The Assistant Management Accountant will support the Group Financial Controller and wider finance team in planning, controlling, and analysing financial data. The role exists to ensure accurate reporting and to help management make informed, strategic decisions across the group's construction and retail operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting packs for senior management
- Allocate cash receipts to invoices
- Complete bank reconciliations and post general ledger entries (accruals, prepayments, journals)
- Match invoices to sales orders and certificates
- Set up, verify, and process subcontractor payments
- Process monthly cost transfers and accrual entries
- Provide documentation and support for internal audits
- Prepare and submit VAT returns
- Assist with cashflow forecasting
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Produce sales and stock reports
- Carry out credit control as required
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and maintain supporting schedules
- Uphold company values and act as a positive role model within the business
- Support project work and assist with commercial reporting
- Work flexibly across different locations when needed, including retail sites
- Undertake ad‑hoc duties assigned by senior management
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
Qualifications
- Part‑qualified accountant or equivalent (AAT / CIMA / ACCA / ACA / QBE)
Experience
- Previous accounting or finance experience is essential
- Experience within construction or retail environments is beneficial but not required
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong IT skills, particularly Excel
- Experience with Exchequer or similar finance systems

- Able to translate financial data into meaningful business insight
