Crynodeb

The Clinical Fellow will be a key member of the inter-disciplinary rehabilitation team and will assist the consultants in the day to day management of the 20 bed neurological Rehabilitation Ward. He/ She will take an active part in patient management and be responsible under the supervision of the Consultant and Speciality doctor, for the day to day medical management of the inpatients. There are a variety of Neurology Clinics ( Movement disorders, Neuromuscular, Inflammatory Neurology including Multiple Sclerosis and general neurology including ward referrals) that the post holder can attend under consultant supervision in the first instance. The primary role however will be the day to day running of the neurological rehabilitation ward. He / She will attend weekly consultant ward rounds and the inter-disciplinary ward meetings. Duties will include reviewing the inpatients, attending case conferences, ordering and following up on relevant investigations, documentation in the medical records and ensuring the electronic and multidisciplinary discharge letters are completed on time. The post holder is expected to support negotiations with families, carers and patients in respect to their care at Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit and in their adjustment to the impact of disability. He/ she is expected to provide clinical reports to funding and referring authorities as required and to apply for DOLS application where necessary. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in audits, quality improvement projects and clinical governance activities and mandatory training deemed necessary by the Trust. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in Hospital audit and in the Pan Thames Regional Audit meeting of the British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine held every January at Hillingdon Hospital. The post holder will be encouraged to play an active role in teaching/training activities. This includes teaching of nurses and allied health professionals and final year medical students from Imperial. All doctors are expected to participate in continuing professional development, annual appraisal and revalidation and to join appropriate supervision and PDP groups for the role and to remain up to date on professional developments as required by their professional body. Post holder will be supported to improve their development needs identified in their PDP by study leave entitlement and funding as necessary. The would be an ideal post for trainees wishing to pursue a career in Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine,internal medicine or wishing to gain experience in neurosciences before going into general practice. All the consultants with Rehabilitation Medicine and Neurology work across Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust (district general) and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (tertiary service). The Trust has an active training programme in the evening for doctors preparing for the MRCP PACES exam. The trust is a recognised training site for trainees in Rehabilitation Medicine. In terms of training opportunities, the trainees can attend the neuroradiology meeting on Mondays, Department of medicine grand rounds on Tuesdays. Neurology grand rounds from Charing Cross (via Teams) on Fridays. Besides this we have monthly intra departmental teaching sessions for the wider multidisciplinary team. While the post is a 9 am to 5pm post and carries no additional banding, there is the opportunity for the post holder to join a bank rota with the other doctors in Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine to provide weekend cover at the Mount Vernon Site from 9am to 5pm.
