Job description
Overview of the Job

To manage and maintain systems to provide a comprehensive Peer Mentoring service in the local area.

The role is regionally based and reports to the regional Engaging People on Probation (EPOP) manager. The postholder will manage and supervise up to 15 volunteer peer mentors, with responsibility for recruiting and coordinating peer mentors in Probation.

The postholder does not require a probation qualification but will need a keen understanding of risk and other operational issues.

The postholder will have lived experience of the criminal justice system.

Probation Employment Pathway (PEP)

The Probation Employment Pathway (PEP) is a dedicated route into the employment, within the Probation Service, for people with convictions and Lived Experience of the Justice system.

PEP is only accredited for use with Probation Service roles.

Current PEP vacancies can be seen on Justice Jobs/Civil Service jobs with the prefix ‘PEP:’

PEP roles have the same offence-based exclusions as GFIE however PEP roles are open to anyone who has received within the last 10 years:

a custodial conviction and has been released from prison
a conviction resulting in a community sentence
a conditional discharge
an out-of-court disposal
The MoJ offence-based exclusions are:

life sentences
arson
hate crimes including terror related, racial/religious aggravated offending.
sex offences
misconduct in a public office/abuse of position of authority.
significant breach of trust/deception
stalking
any offences linked to firearms.
offences relating to children.
false imprisonment
kidnapping
supply controlled drugs within a prison setting.
serious violent offences which resulted in life changing injuries and/or trauma
