This is an exciting opportunity to join our IBD Specialist nursing team in a band 6 post, depending on experience.

We are looking to welcome a highly motivated, confident, and enthusiastic nurse who will be an integral part of our IBD nursing service. The successful applicant will work closely with the Lead IBD Nurse Specialist, IBD CNS team and MDT to provide excellent, specialised nursing care and support for patients with IBD in inpatient and outpatient clinic settings.

You will be welcomed into our IBD nurse service where we will support you to develop expert knowledge and skills in order for you to provide excellent, evidence-based professional care and advice.

Duties will include managing nurse-led face to face and virtual outpatient and biologic clinics, in-patient clinical reviews, and providing expert clinical advice and information via the direct-access patient telephone and email service.

You will provide comprehensive clinical assessment, advice, education and support to patients to promote self-care in IBD disease and medications management. You will implement early investigations, changes in treatment/medication and facilitate rapid access to secondary care services for patients, relatives, carers and clinicians, in relation to the management of IBD.

North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) is a progressive and ambitious provider of health services, delivering for a large local population and with specialist regional services for major trauma, neurosciences, vascular centre, urology, plastics and burns, orthopaedics and renal services. With a turnover of £550m and 9,000 staff, our clinical teams have built a strong reputation for exceptional healthcare.

Our acute services moved into a brand new, state of the art, hospital building in May 2014. This new 850 bed facility at the Southmead site offers patients single rooms with en-suite facilities, greatly improving privacy and dignity and reducing the spread of infections.

To provide specialist clinical support, advice and information, to the highest possible standard of evidence-based, patient-centred care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease within North Bristol Trust.

You will be required to participate in and manage nurse-led clinics and the direct- access patient support telephone/email service, multi-disciplinary team meetings and in-patient clinical review, support and advice for patients with inflammatory bowel disease with the support of the lead IBD Nurse Specialist, IBD CNS team and Consultant Gastroenterologists.

The post-holder is required to work as an autonomous practitioner, provide leadership and be a source of clinical expertise and professional advice, and act as a specialist resource to the patient, relatives, carers and the multidisciplinary team.

The post-holder will play a significant role in setting and maintaining standards, clinical guidelines and protocols, locally and trust wide. You will be proactive in identifying areas for development and improvement within the IBD nursing service and Gastroenterology team.

You will participate in departmental audit and research programmes and be actively involved in educating others and disseminating good practice.

You will work closely with the lead IBD Specialist nurse, IBD CNS team, Gastroenterology Consultants and Specialist Registrars and be responsible for specialised nursing management of a defined caseload of patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

The post holder will facilitate the management of IBD patients between primary and secondary care.
