As Senior Cardiovascular Research Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting, coordinating, and increasing research and clinical trial activity for cardiovascular diseases across UCL Hospitals NHS Trust. As well as working closely with research teams and other stakeholders to ensure that studies are delivered, you will help to strengthen cardiovascular research capacity within the Trust. You will provide clinical and research expertise and leadership, overseeing the day-to-day management of a portfolio of studies, and supporting efficient trial setup, recruitment, and delivery.
• Maintain and develop own knowledge, expertise and competency within the cardiovascular research field
• Support patients in the delivery of care and meeting their health and wellbeing needs by providing advice and information, promoting their wishes and beliefs and addressing their concerns
• Assist with or lead (as appropriate) the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of clinical research studies, and the setting of standards of practice
• Participate in audit programmes and identify areas of potential research relating to the speciality
• Provide advice and support to the multi-disciplinary team both internally and externally regarding patients and research studies
• Disseminate study data, research outcomes and specialist knowledge via poster presentations, written publication and other media as appropriate at local, national and international conferences
• Manage own workload effectively through developing project and time management skills
• Maintain appropriate channels and styles of communication to meet the needs of patients, relatives and carers, managers, peers and other professions / agencies.
• Responsible and accountable for resource issues directly related to the research studies as delegated
• Contribute to local, national and international research nurse networks to exchange and enhance knowledge and expertise

The Senior Research Nurse will play a pivotal role in supporting, coordinating, and expanding research and clinical trial activity across UCLH. The post holder will work closely with Principal Investigators, research teams, clinical services, and external sponsors to ensure that studies are delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. This role will be central to strengthening research capacity within the Trust, ensuring that patients have timely access to innovative treatments and that studies are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), approved protocols, and Trust governance requirements. The post holder will provide expert clinical and research leadership, oversee the day-to-day management of a portfolio of studies, and contribute to the development of robust systems that support efficient trial setup, recruitment, and delivery.
The daily role will involve establishing, managing and delivering a range of trials and other research relating to cardiovascular disease. A range of clinical research activities will occur during the working week, including engagement with researchers, health professionals and patients.
The Cardiology departmentincludes acute inpatient care, as well as provision of outpatient services for General and Interventional Cardiology, Cardio-Oncology, Heart Failure and Electrophysiology. The multidisciplinary team includes over 15 consultants, resident doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiologists and other health professionals.
