Do you have a passion for English supporting learners to achieve their GCSE or functional skills grade? In this role, you will support young people working towards their English qualifications up to GCSE 4, helping them build the confidence, knowledge and practical skills that they need to succeed in education, training and employment. You will plan and deliver engaging lessons, monitor learner progress and provide encouragement and guidance to help students achieve their goals. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about education and youth development to make a real difference within a supportive college setting. Previous teaching experience is not essential; we will offer training and professional development for the right candidate who is committed to helping young people reach their full potential.
Many of the young people we work with have experienced challenges in their education and may have had difficult or negative experiences in school. As an English Tutor, you will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel respected, valued and able to rebuild their confidence in learning. You will work with learners who may be vulnerable or have experienced barriers to education, helping them overcome past setbacks and develop the skills they need to move forward. This role is about more than teaching qualifications; it is about building trust, inspiring belief in their own abilities and making a genuine difference to their future opportunities. Patience, empathy and a commitment to supporting young people to succeed are essential.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the YMCA; a charity at the heart of the community in Derbyshire. We are committed to helping people at times of need, regardless of gender, race, ability or faith. Our values to Protect, Trust, Hope and Persevere underpin all of our services across the county.
