What skills and experience we're looking for
Lunchtime Supervisory Assistants (2 positions available)
Main school position – 7 hrs 55 mins per week (1 hr 35 mins per day), term time only
Nursery position - 8 hrs 20 mins per week (1 hr 40 mins per day), term time only
Scholes (Elmet) Primary School is looking for two lunchtime assistants to join our school, to start asap.
For our children, we're a happy and healthy place to learn. For our staff, we're a happy and healthy place to work:
• ‘It feels like staff wellbeing is considered across the federation.’
• ‘It’s great to work with such supportive colleagues.’
• ‘I feel valued as a part of the team.’
(Staff survey, 2026)
We want people who demonstrate personal qualities of dedication, patience, flexibility and humour. They will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as respond quickly to the changing needs of the school and individual children.
Some experience of working with children would be useful though not essential as full support will be given to the successful applicants.
These roles will involve supervising our children to ensure that lunchtime is a fun, active and enjoyable time of the day. The successful candidates will also be expected to supervise the children in the dinner hall and outside. This will involve supporting children while they eat their lunch, helping to keep the dinner hall clean and tidy and ensuring the school discipline and safeguarding procedures are implemented at all times.
One of the roles will be based in Early Years, helping our younger children. This role will also involve checking/cleaning washrooms before the afternoon Nursery session starts.
What the school offers its staff
For children and staff alike, Scholes (Elmet) has:
- A perfect balance of care and support with high expectations
- A leadership team dedicated to attainment, achievement and enjoyment
- Friendly, welcoming staff
- A great atmosphere and ethos which promotes inclusion and co-operation
- A commitment to diversity and a workforce that reflects the population of Leeds
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare and safety (thorough checks will be made of the successful applicant’s background credentials, including enhanced DBS checks)
Further details about the role
We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Leeds.

Safeguarding
This post involves substantial contact with children. Safeguarding is a key requirement and responsibility.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of all children. We expect our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
As part of this and all recruitments, we carry out thorough safeguarding checks. This includes (not an exhaustive list of the recruitment checks):
1. an online search to help identify any incidents or issues which might compromise your professional role
2. obtaining two references, one of which is from the candidate’s current or most recent employer
3. a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for the successful candidate
All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. However, amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria from the Ministry of Justice on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found here. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that are not filtered prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed. Further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guidance. Please note, under Section 7(1)(a) of the SVGA 2006 (Legislation.gov.uk), it is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred in engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
