JOB DESCRIPTION NURSING ASSOCIATE Reports To: Lead Practice Nurse / GP Partner Accountable To: Practice Manager / GP Partners Location: Pelham Medical Practice / St Gregorys Medical Practice Hours: (Full-time / Part-time) Job Summary The Nursing Associate is a key member of the multidisciplinary team within the GP Practice, delivering high-quality, person-centred care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or GP. The role bridges the gap between a Healthcare Assistant and a Registered Nurse, contributing to clinical care, health promotion, chronic disease management, immunisation programmes, and practice-wide quality improvement initiatives. The Nursing Associate works within their scope of practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code. Key Duties and Responsibilities 1. Clinical Practice The Nursing Associate will: Undertake and record clinical observations including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, height, weight, BMI and urinalysis. Perform venepuncture, capillary blood sampling and other diagnostic procedures. Carry out ECGs. Deliver wound care including dressings, suture removal and basic wound assessment. Administer injections as delegated and within scope of practice. Support chronic disease monitoring (e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension) under supervision. Support patients with long-term conditions, including those with complex needs such as dementia and mental health conditions. Undertake NHS Health Checks. Carry out cervical cytology (if trained and competent). Administer vaccinations and immunisations under Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or Patient Specific Directions (PSDs), including childhood immunisations (if appropriately trained and assessed as competent). Undertake home visits for housebound patients for annual reviews, vaccinations and monitoring as delegated. Recognise and respond appropriately to deteriorating patients or safeguarding concerns. 2. Health Promotion & Patient Education Provide evidence-based lifestyle advice (smoking cessation, weight management, alcohol awareness, physical activity). Promote self-management of long-term conditions. Signpost patients to appropriate services. Support national and local public health initiatives. 3. Clinical Governance & Quality Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records in line with practice policy. Support Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) achievement. Participate in audit, data collection and quality improvement activities. Contribute to infection prevention and control procedures. Adhere to CQC standards and practice policies. Participate in significant event analysis and learning reviews. Maintain cold chain compliance for vaccines. 4. Safeguarding Adhere to safeguarding policies for children and vulnerable adults. Recognise signs of abuse or neglect and escalate appropriately. Maintain up-to-date safeguarding training as required for the role. 5. Team Working Work collaboratively with GPs, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Pharmacists, Social Prescribers and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Communicate effectively regarding patient care and escalate concerns appropriately. Support and mentor Healthcare Assistants and Trainee Nursing Associates where appropriate. Attend and contribute to practice meetings. 6. Professional Responsibilities Maintain active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Work within the NMC Code and scope of professional practice. Maintain revalidation requirements. Participate in annual appraisal and personal development planning. Undertake mandatory training including: Basic Life Support Safeguarding (Children & Adults) Infection Prevention & Control Information Governance Fire Safety Equality & Diversity 7. Information Governance & Confidentiality Ensure compliance with UK GDPR and Data Protection legislation. Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times. Use clinical systems accurately and securely. 8. Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Provide care that is non-discriminatory and culturally sensitive. Promote equality and respect within the workplace and patient population.
