We’re looking for a Communications and Engagement Officer to join our team and help drive positive change across the Lake District National Park.
You’ll take the lead, working with multiple partners, to plan and deliver creative, meaningful online and offline campaigns that encourage millions of visitors to enjoy this special place responsibly.
Your work will help influence behaviour, spark conversations, and inspire people to leave no trace while exploring the Lake District.

The Communications team are a friendly, collaborative and approachable team. We are based in Kendal for a minimum of two days a week and time in the Park as required. The team works together flexibly, supporting one another with varying workloads and sharing progress on key objectives.
We operate a hybrid way of working combining working from home and days at our office base at Wayfaring House, Kendal. You’ll be provided with a laptop to enable you to access our secure IT network when working remotely.
The role
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
• Working with the Communications team and partners, you will lead on creating and delivering an integrated visitor communications and engagement campaign during our peak visitor seasons.
• Taking the established Lake District Kind campaign and proven behaviour change methods to influence change and educate National Park visitors on the Countryside Code and how to be a responsible visitor.
• Managing suppliers and internal clients to ensure visitor engagement activities, campaigns and educational material are delivered on time and to a high standard.
• Using your strong engagement experience to deliver in-person events.
• Managing media opportunities to inform communities and improve message reach, deliver targeted digital campaigns and community outreach, particularly within social media groups.
• Using data and insights from rangers and partners to refine campaign activity.
• Developing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, such as media, businesses, communities and visitors, to build understanding and advocacy for the visitor engagement campaign and integrated communications activity.
• Demonstrating impact through regular measurement and evaluation reports and sharing with multiple stakeholders.

You have a vast range of knowledge and expertise in multiple digital channels including social media, email, blog and websites, alongside the ability to manage offline material. Your ability to craft clear, compelling content will help ensure messages reach the right audiences.
