Newham University Hospital Emergency Department is seeking to appoint two Locum Emergency Medicine Consultants to join our busy, high-acuity inner-city Emergency Department serving one of the most diverse and socio-economically deprived populations in the UK.

These posts offer an exceptional opportunity to work at consultant level in a department managing a high volume of undifferentiated, high-risk and complex acute presentations, including major trauma, medical and surgical emergencies, infectious diseases, mental health crises, and significant social vulnerability.

About the Department

Newham ED provides care across the full spectrum of modern Emergency Medicine, including:

● Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)

● Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)

● Injuries/Urgent Care

● Paediatric Emergency Medicine

The post holder, shared with other consultants will be expected to;
● Attend weekly consultant meetings, monthly Clinical Governance
meetings and other relevant departmental meetings.
● Contribute to the recruitment and selection of all clinical staff.
● Contribute to the wider management aspects of the department, which
include the future and annual planning process, improving performance
against local and national targets and taking on responsibility for an
aspect of the service.
● Foster multidisciplinary team working.
● Develop good working relationships with specialist teams, support
services and primary care colleagues to ensure that patients are
encouraged to access care from the most appropriate agency to meet
their needs.
● Be involved in the establishment of care pathways for a range of
conditions, which may involve specialist teams.
● Be involved in the updating of Standard Operational Policies and
departmental clinical policies and guidelines.
