Crynodeb

About you:

You are a confident and community-focused professional with a strong commitment to public safety and partnership working. You have experience of working in a front-facing role, ideally within a local authority, enforcement, housing, policing, or community setting, and understand the challenges facing diverse communities. You are skilled at building positive relationships with residents, businesses, and partner agencies such as Devon and Cornwall Police, support services, and voluntary sector organisations to resolve anti-social behaviour and community safety concerns.

You are calm under pressure and able to manage conflict professionally, using sound judgement to assess risk and take proportionate action. You have knowledge of relevant legislation relating to anti-social behaviour, community protection, and safeguarding, and are confident gathering evidence, preparing case files, and representing the Council where required.

Highly organised and self-motivated, you can manage a varied caseload, prioritise effectively, and work both independently and as part of a wider team. You are confident using IT systems, maintaining accurate records, and handling sensitive information appropriately. Above all, you are approachable, resilient, and passionate about making a visible difference in the communities served by Exeter City Council.

About the role:

As a Community Safety Officer at Exeter City Council, you will play a key role in helping to keep our communities safe, resilient, and welcoming. Working across the city, you will respond to reports of anti-social behaviour, environmental crime, and community safety concerns, taking a proactive and problem-solving approach to achieve sustainable outcomes.

You will manage a varied caseload, carrying out investigations, gathering evidence, interviewing complainants and alleged perpetrators, using appropriate enforcement tools where necessary. The role requires close partnership working with agencies including Devon and Cornwall Police, housing providers, support services, and community groups to deliver coordinated responses and safeguard vulnerable individuals.

You will also contribute to preventative initiatives, engagement activities, and visible patrols, helping to build trust and confidence within local neighbourhoods. This is a dynamic, frontline role requiring sound judgement, resilience, and a commitment to fair and proportionate enforcement, alongside a strong focus on early intervention and community-based solutions.

About the team:

You will be part of a team of 8 who will report to the Community safety supervisor who in turn will report to the Community safety manager.
