- £32,000 per annum + Corporate Benefits Package Opportunities for Part Time / Flexible Working can be discussed. Working pattern to cover minimum 2 Sundays per month.
Ready to impact a better future? As an Anglican Chaplain in our Justice and Immigration team, you’ll provide faith and pastoral care to people in custody, helping them access worship, spiritual guidance, and meaningful support during challenging periods in their lives.
You’ll be part of our multi‑faith chaplaincy team, using your expertise to offer Anglican ministry while also supporting individuals of all faiths and none. Your work helps nurture wellbeing, supports rehabilitation, and contributes to safer, more compassionate prison communities.
What you’ll do as an Anglican Chaplain You’ll be entrusted to:
- Provide Anglican faith and pastoral care to prisoners, colleagues, and where appropriate, their families.
- Plan, lead, and facilitate worship, prayer, study groups, and other faith‑based activities that support spiritual development.
- Contribute to crisis support, pastoral care, and mentoring for those navigating difficult personal circumstances.
- Work collaboratively with the Managing Chaplain and the wider multi‑faith team to ensure accessible chaplaincy provision at all times.
- Engage with Anglican communities outside the prison to support resettlement and ongoing pastoral pathways.
- Support training initiatives, including Faith Awareness Training for colleagues.
Does this sound like you? You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…
- Ordination within the Anglican Communion (or a Porvoo Agreement church) OR are a licensed Reader, Religious Brother/Sister, Church Army Evangelist, or equivalent within Anglican tradition.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Anglican theology, liturgy, and pastoral practice.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals and communities.
- The confidence to offer pastoral care in crisis situations and support those experiencing vulnerability.
- Good IT literacy and the ability to work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team.
Vetting and checks This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
