Job Introduction

We’re looking for aDomestic Assistantto join ourSodexoteamatNorth DevonDistrict Hospital. In this vital role,you’ll help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients,staff, and visitors. Your work will directly support health and wellbeingthroughout the hospital.If you have a strong work ethic, an eye for detail,and take pride in delivering exceptional service, this is your chance to bepart of something greater. What you’ll do:

  • Complete scheduled cleaning in assigned areas, following all policies and procedures.
  • Maintain high cleanliness standards across all areas of responsibility.
  • Safely dispose of domestic and clinical waste per infection control guidelines.
  • Replenish consumables (e.g., soap, paper towels, toilet rolls).
  • Use and store approved equipment/materials safely, complying with COSHH and PPE requirements.
  • Perform general domestic duties (e.g., cleaning surfaces/floors, bed cleaning, dishwashing, curtain changes, floor care).
  • Operate electrical cleaning machines and maintain stock/equipment control.
  • Report issues, respond to ad-hoc requests, liaise with clinical staff, and follow Trust/Sodexo policies.

What you bring:

  • NVQ in Healthcare Support Services or BICSc CPSS qualification.
  • Experience in healthcare, customer-facing roles, and team-based cleaning (including waste and bodily fluids).
  • Strong communication skills with patients, visitors, colleagues, and clients.
  • Compassionate, respectful, and able to build positive working relationships.
  • Able to follow instructions, work independently, and remain professional in stressful situations.
  • Physically fit, with basic literacy, good hygiene standards, and a positive, team-focused attitude.
