Crynodeb
The post holder is expected to assist in the effective assessment of patients attending pre-operative clinic and provide support to the Registered nurses in the department, to ensure smooth running of the service.
To work under the direction of a Registered nurse at all times.
Clinical
· Undertake and record observations of temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure following competency based training and assessment by a Registered nurse
· Take pre operative swabs from patients as directed by the Registered nurse in accordance with control of Infection policies
· Following competency based training and assessment perform venepuncture and ECG recordings for patients attending the unit.
· Escorting patients to other Departments as required
·Prepare, clean and tidy clinical rooms, clean nursing equipment and cupboards/trolleys.
· Restock clinical equipment trolleys eg venepuncture
·Safely dispose of waste, including hazardous materials and sharps.
Administrative
To assist team members in the administrative process of patients attending clinic including:
· Obtaining patient records and any relevant X-rays/reports for clinic.
· Preparation of clinic admission packs.
·Transportation of notes and messages to other Departments.
Communication
·To maintain harmonious relationships and communicate effectively with other members of the multidisciplinary teams including ward staff, medical records, waiting list clerks and medical secretaries.
· Have good telephone communication skills.
· Attend departmental meetings as required.
· Report any complaints by patients, relatives, other staff and members of the public to Senior staff
