Main responsibilities Clinical Provide individual counselling and group therapies across Hospice services within own competencies and the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. Effective patient and client referral management to deliver timely, safe and therapeutic counselling in line with service specification. Facilitate and oversee the triage of referrals to ensure appropriate risk mitigation, undertaking thorough risk assessments for each client and seeking guidance, support, or onward referral to alternative professionals when required. Effective counselling caseload management to fulfil service demands and leadership responsibilities. Maintain accurate and relevant written/computerised records as required by Springhill Hospice and in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018. Maintain consistent communication with the clinical multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimum, holistic care and support is provided for patients and loved ones within the Hospice services. Oversee / coordinate of therapeutic bereavement group activity, ensuring effective delivery. Maintain close communication with clinical colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimum, holistic care and support is provided for patients and families within the Hospice service. Maintain own arrangements for clinical supervision, relaying any additional support required to the attention of the Director of Clinical Services. Leadership/Managerial Staff 1. Provide effective line management to the team (counsellors, Spiritual and Pastoral Care coordinator, administrator and volunteers); conducting performance management, performance development review (PDRs) in an effective and timely manner, sickness/absence management, development of competencies and providing supervision. 2. Responsible for volunteer management support via Take 10 or manage appropriate delegation to competent team members. Responsible for student counsellors management and facilitating successful learning objectives. Coordinate all aspects of the staff counselling service, including efficient referral processes and collaborative relationships with private practice counsellors offering pro bono sessions. 5. Lead regular team meetings, to disseminate information, share good practice and create an effective space to discuss service developments. Perform annual PDRs and 6 monthly reviews for the team. Service Effectively manage service delivery across Hospice services, meeting fluctuating needs. Maintain and drive the development of counselling and bereavement services in conjunction with the Director of Clinical Services. 3. Maintain effective communication with the wider Hospice teams, retaining the excellent relationships with Marketing and Fundraising to ensure an accurate understanding of the services available. Network and develop relationships with other Hospices, statutory and voluntary organisations. 5. Actively gather and provide feedback and in conjunction with the Quality Assurance lead, proactively identify areas where changes to practice will result in quality improvements. 6. Manage and report complaints, concerns, feedback and compliments in line with hospice policy. 7. Actively contribute to the internal subcommittee meetings as a member of the Operational management team (OMT) - (Clinical Standards, Risk management, HR & Information Governance) and others determined appropriate to role / needs of the service. Contribute to organisational and governance requirements; strategic objectives, delivery plan, policy development, risk assessments, audit to support ongoing service improvement and development. Contribute to the Governance framework of the Hospice undertaking the updating of policies and procedures in line with government proposals, national and local guidelines. Keep up to date, informing the team of any changes in relations with governance activity and latest policies and procedures. 10. Responsible for statistical reports, data and trends analysis in conjunction with the Data administrator and Director of Clinical Services. Provide service reports as required to the Director of Clinical Services (e.g. ICB and KPIs to demonstrate contractual agreements). 12. Working with the Director of Clinical Services, contribute to achieving the required compliance in relation to the CQC quality statements. Maintain BACP Service Accreditation to demonstrate regulatory body compliance. Assume responsibility for service delivery within agreed financial budget 15. Contribute to the creation of grant applications in conjunction with relevant staff. 16. Manage the recruitment and selection process, for staff and in conjunction with the volunteer coordinator for the volunteer workforce. Education and Development Maintain regulatory body (BACP) standards of competence and Hospice training requirements thought course attendance as agreed with line manager during the PDR process. Bring to attention of the Director of Clinical Services any training needs required, for both the post holder and others in the team, in addition to those provided routinely by the Hospice in line with PDR. Provide mentorship to new counsellors and students on placement. Contribute to the organisational training and development programme within the Hospice as deemed appropriate in consultation with the Education lead and the Director of Clinical Services. Contribute to research and audit as required in line with Hospice Policy General 1. Contribute to and actively promote Springhill Hospice Mission, Vision, Values and Commitments. Read, understand and comply with all Hospice policies and procedures, applying the principles as appropriate to role. Be aware of individual specific responsibilities in respect of the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, in relation to role. Undertake any additional duties or responsibilities deemed reasonable appropriate by the Director of Clinical Services. 5. Participate in the Hospice managerial on-call rota. This Job Description may be reviewed in conjunction with the post-holder in conjunction with the development of the organisation. Springhill Hospice is a registered charity. All staff members are expected to contribute to fundraising activities for the benefit of the Hospice.
