Location: London Gatwick Airport (Crawley)
Pay: £16.82 per hour (£35,000 per year)
Contract: Temporary to Permanent | Full-Time | Ongoing Opportunity
We are currently hiring an Operations & Maintenance Technician to join a specialist on-site team at Gatwick Airport. This is a practical, technically focused position involving the operation and upkeep of a state-of-the-art automated robotic parking system within a live airport setting.
This opportunity is ideal for a technically qualified individual with a Level 2 or Level 3 certification (NVQ, BTEC, or City & Guilds) in mechanical, electrical, or automation engineering, along with 2-3 years of hands-on experience in a related field.
Comprehensive training will be provided by experienced technical professionals, offering the chance to develop expertise in advanced automation technology within a safety-critical and fast-paced environment.
Main Duties

Conduct planned and reactive mechanical and electrical maintenance on robotic equipment and associated infrastructure

Perform inspections, diagnostics, and fault resolution

Oversee system operations during standard running conditions and respond effectively to emergencies

Coordinate with airport personnel and internal departments

Provide operational assistance to users when required

Maintain accurate records, procedures, and stock control using standard IT systems

Develop an understanding of automated systems, robotics processes, and customer service expectations
Working Hours
-
Flexibility required for both day and night shifts
-
Monday to Friday (occasional weekend work may be required)

Day shifts: 08:00 - 19:00

Night shifts: 21:00 - 06:00

Overtime paid at enhanced rates
-
Fully site-based role (no remote work)

Work carried out both indoors and outdoors within an operational airport environment
Candidate Requirements

Level 2 or Level 3 qualification (NVQ/BTEC/City & Guilds) in mechanical, electrical, or automation engineering (essential)

2-3 years' experience in maintenance or a similar technical role

Strong mechanical and/or electrical knowledge

Practical experience with robotics or automated systems (advantageous)

Well-organised, dependable, and customer-oriented

Confident using standard IT applications

Fluent English required (French language skills beneficial)
