The main duties, roles and responsibilities of the post include: Clinical The post-holders duties will be primarily at Kettering General Hospital (KGH), but it is a condition of all appointments that post-holders will be willing to work at Northampton General Hospital. The post holder will perform the duties of a JCF (CT1/2) to the Haematology team which is based at the KGH. The team treats patients with a variety of haematological conditions. The post contains opportunities to participate in research, learn about intensive chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapies for the treatment of cancer. Candidates will be expected to cover the emergency assessment bay, wards, and chemotherapy suite. Teaching/Research Kettering General Hospital NHS Trust is a busy DGH, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of every-day clinical activity. It is anticipated the post-holder will have opportunity for further training and development in relation to delivering the role. They will be allowed to attend the Junior doctors teaching sessions on Wednesday afternoons. Clinical trials are an additional key component of the post, requiring clinical trial governance as the post-holder will be expected to assist in the management of trial patients. Clinical Governance The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, morbidity and mortality reviews and meetings, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies. Clinical audit, including completion of an audit cycle, is seen as a mandatory activity for all junior doctors/ associate specialist/Consultants. Personal and Professional Development including revalidation The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs. The Trust has the required arrangements in place, as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians, to ensure that all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports doctors going through the revalidation process. Management The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust. He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients, and the running of clinical department under the direction of the lead clinician and/or directorate chair. Risk Management The management of risk is the responsibility of everyone and will be achieved within a progressive, honest and open environment. Staff will be provided with the necessary education, training and support to enable them to meet this responsibility. They must complete all the statutory and mandatory training requirements. Responsibilities for Health & Safety The post holder is responsible for ensuring that all duties and responsibilities of this post are carried out in compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Statutory Regulations and Trust Policies and Procedures. This will be supported by the provision of training and specialist advice where required. OTHER INFORMATION The post holder may be required to carry out other relevant duties as required. The post holder will adhere to the duties specified under the Staff Responsibilities of the NHS Constitution in their day to day work and behaviours. The post holder will be expected to aspire to the Values of the Trust in their day to day work and behaviours in order to support the Trust in achieving its Vision. The post holder will adhere to, at all times, any Professional, NHS Code of Conducts and legislation relevant for their area of work. The post holder will make themselves familiar with, and adhere to, at all times, the policies and procedures of the Trust, and their area of work. The post holder will be expected to work to any Corporate/Division/Directorate/Department objectives and standards in order to provide an acceptable level of service. The post holder will be expected to undertake training, including mandatory and role specific training, relevant to their role and ensure it is renewed as required. This job description reflects the present requirements of the post and it does not form part of the contract of employment. As the duties of the post change and develop the job description will be reviewed and will be subject to amendment, in consultation with the post holder. It is the Trusts aim to reach agreement on reasonable changes, but if agreement is not possible the Trust reserves the right to effect changes to the post holders job description after consultation with them. Appropriate notice of such changes will be given.
