Reed are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of Fox’s Burton’s Companies (FBC UK) for Process Operators based at their Batley site (WF17 5JE). This is a full-time, permanent position working weekend days, with shifts running Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 7pm (23 hours) and an hourly pay rate of £12.90, paid monthly.
FBC UK bake some of the UK’s most recognisable and best‑loved biscuits — and while they may be slightly biased, they invite you to decide for yourself. Formed through the union of two of the UK’s leading biscuit manufacturers, Burton’s Biscuits and Fox’s Biscuits, the company now operates as one integrated, innovative business. They are home to iconic brands such as Maryland, Fox’s, Jammie Dodger, and Rocky, and proudly manufacture products for some of the UK’s biggest retailers and household names. Today, FBC UK stand as the second-largest biscuit manufacturer in the country with clear ambitions to become the number one market leader.
People are truly the heart of FBC UK, and their passion for the brands they create is what sets the business apart. They are looking for individuals with creativity, drive and a hands-on approach — someone who could be the jammy to their dodger, the party ring to their Fox’s, or the choc‑chip to their Maryland. If you bring fresh ideas, an entrepreneurial spirit and the motivation to help push the company forward, you could be the perfect addition to their team.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and consistent operation of processing equipment while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, health and safety, quality and hygiene at all times. This will include following correct factory dress code, handwashing procedures and documentation requirements. You will check production programmes, oven profiles and recipe sheets, ensuring the correct settings are entered into the computerised bulk feed system. Refilling hoppers, preparing and adding pre‑mix batches and checking that guards and hoppers are correctly fitted will all form part of your daily routine.
Your role will also involve monitoring and maintaining key pieces of equipment across the production line. This includes setting up, operating and controlling the rotary moulder, baking oven, cream mixing equipment, creaming machines, chocolate enrober and chocolate cooler. You will make adjustments as needed to maintain standards and specifications, while reporting and rectifying any faults promptly. Ensuring a steady supply of chocolate to support production demand, monitoring product quality for any deviations, checking colour standards and keeping accurate control sheets will all be essential. Throughout your shift, you will maintain a clean, tidy and hygienic working area and ensure that all plant equipment remains in good condition.
To be successful, you should have previous technical machine operation experience, ideally within a food or beverage manufacturing environment. Experience working with automated or semi‑automated machinery — including ovens, Meinkie baking equipment or cappers — would be highly beneficial. You will need strong attention to detail, the ability to follow recipes and batch sheets accurately and a consistent commitment to food hygiene and health and safety standards. A natural problem‑solver with good mechanical awareness will do well in this role, particularly when diagnosing irregularities or carrying out minor adjustments. Given the fast‑paced nature of the environment, you should be comfortable working quickly and efficiently without compromising quality. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues, supervisors and maintenance teams are also essential, especially during changeovers and production runs.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward‑thinking, ambitious organisation and contribute directly to the creation of some of the UK’s favourite biscuits. If you’re ready to be part of a passionate team in a business that continues to grow and evolve, this could be the perfect role for you.
