Clinical Responsibilities The postholder will manage a wide range of health needs within a primary care setting, ensuring high-quality care for all registered and temporary patients. They will work in accordance with the agreed practice timetable and will be available to undertake the full range of GP duties, including consultations, telephone assessments, patient queries, home visits, reviewing and signing repeat prescriptions, and completing paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner. They will be expected to make autonomous clinical decisions for patients presenting with both undifferentiated and established conditions, whether selfreferred or referred by other members of the healthcare team. This includes assessing patients with undiagnosed symptoms, managing longterm conditions, and engaging fully with QOF and relevant clinical targets. The postholder will screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness, develop personalised care plans in line with current diseasemanagement protocols, and maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records. Prescribing will be undertaken in line with practice and local formulary guidance. They will undertake all duties normally expected of a GP in primary care, including participating in the duty rota as the oncall GP when required, and contributing to leadership, supervision, and training within the practice. Other Responsibilities Within the Organisation The postholder will: Ensure awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, including those relating to prescribing, confidentiality, data protection and health and safety. Commit to ongoing professional development, audit and evidencebased practice. Contribute to clinical audits, service evaluation and the development of clinical standards. Support the development and accurate use of computerbased patient records, including appropriate Snomed coding. Attend relevant training, MDT meetings, clinical meetings and monthly practice meetings as required. Confidentiality In performing their duties, the postholder will have access to confidential information relating to patients, carers, staff and the business of the practice. All such information must be treated as strictly confidential. Information may only be shared with authorised personnel and in accordance with practice policies on confidentiality and data protection. Patients entrust the practice with sensitive personal and health information, and the postholder is expected to respect and protect this at all times. Health and Safety The postholder will uphold health and safety standards and infection control requirements as set out in practice policies and national guidance. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Using personal security and infectioncontrol systems appropriately. Maintaining awareness of national infectioncontrol standards and professional requirements. Ensuring correct handling, labelling, storage, and transportation of clinical specimens. Using PPE correctly and ensuring others do the same. Managing infectioncontrol procedures in both routine and exceptional circumstances. Maintaining excellent hand hygiene standards. Managing and reporting any incidents of accidental exposure. Ensuring clinical areas remain clean, safe and hazardfree, taking corrective action or escalating concerns when needed. Participating in regular infectioncontrol training. Ensuring safe waste and sharps management. Supporting the safeguarding and welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
