Hays are working with an "Outstanding" 11-16 SEMH residential school who are seeking a committed and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a young person with significant learning needs. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about helping pupils access meaningful learning experiences in a way that keeps them safe, engaged, and supported.
You will work on a 1:1 basis with a male pupil who requires a high level of supervision due to significant learning needs and risk-management considerations. This role requires someone who can provide consistent structure, reassurance, and safe guidance throughout the school day and beyond.
Location: Middleton
Hours: 3 days per week
Start Date: Late March 2025
Contract Type: Temporary until end of academic year
Rate: £95 - £120/day DOE
What You'll Be Doing
Your week will include:
✔ Two days per week at an Alternative Provision (AP)
- Transporting the pupil from School to a partner AP setting
- Supervising and supporting the pupil throughout the day.
- The AP is a welcoming, nurturing farm-based setting, offering hands‑on activities and a calm environment
- Ensuring safety, engagement, and positive participation at all times.
✔ One day per week in the community
- Supporting the pupil to access community-based learning.
- Planning and facilitating safe, purposeful outings that build independence and confidence.
- Providing continuous supervision, reassurance, and positive role‑modelling.
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people with additional needs (school, care, SEN, or youth work backgrounds all considered)
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent
- Strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
- Confidence in managing risk and following safety plans
- A warm, positive attitude and a genuine commitment to improving young people's lives
Please Note: A full UK driving licence and own transport is essential due to the nature of the role
