York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals are looking for an experienced and dynamic anaesthetist to work as a Specialist within Scarborough hospital. This is a new role designed for senior doctors who are competent and comfortable to work independently both in, and out of, normal daytime hours. The post has been set up to replicate the way of working of our current Consultant body, in recognition of the fact that many senior, non-Consultant, anaesthetists are already effectively working at this level. We hope that this exciting opportunity will provide the challenge, recognition and remuneration, that the successful applicant deserves.
The post-holder will work as part of the senior anaesthetic team, providing anaesthetic services across all of the Trust’s main sites. Primarily Scarborough and Bridlington. As a Specialist it is expected that the post-holder will undertake clinical duties independently, and act at the level of an RCoA sessional supervisor when required. The post-holder will be expected to be able to supervise and support Junior Doctors working in anaesthesia.
We provide acute and community services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York and Scarborough, providing a range of specialist services over a wider catchment area across North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Ryedale.
In April 2011 the Trust took over the management of some community based services in Selby, York, Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale. This includes some community nursing and specialist services.
The acquisition of Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Health Care NHS Trust was finalised in July 2012. The key aim of the integration is to strengthen clinical services and ensure the delivery of the most comprehensive set of sustainable, quality services as close to the patient’s home as possible, and as such this represents an exciting development for the organisation.
The York Hospital is the Trust’s largest hospital and offers a range of inpatient and outpatient services. With our two community rehabilitation hospitals at St Helen’s and White Cross Court we have over 700 beds.
Scarborough Hospital is the Trust's second largest hospital. It has an Accident and Emergency department and provides acute medical and surgical services, including trauma, intensive care to the population and visitors to the North East Yorkshire Coast.
Individual job plans will be discussed by the post-holder with the Clinical Director to finalise the job plan which will become operational on commencement. All jobs plans are agreed in line with the Trusts Job Planning Principles. DCC and SPA commitments will be annualised. Weekly commitments may vary depending on departmental need.
Job plans will be reviewed at least annually, following an appraisal meeting. The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out the Specialist’s typical working pattern, duties and responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of a Specialist’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities and external commitments.
It is expected that additional programmed activities will be offered to the post holder up to a maximum of 12. Any offer of additional programmed activities will be based on the needs of the service and in line with the Trust objectives and will be reviewed on at least an annual basis.
A core 1.25 PAs of SPA time is provided per week for Consultant, Specialist and SAS grades initially with additional PAs available for specific extra roles and responsibilities as required by the Directorate. SPA allocation may be reduced pre rata for those wishing to work less than full time.
