Grade: ST3–ST7 / SpR
Contract: Locum (full-time, part-time, or ad hoc)
Start: ASAP Location: NHS Trust (UK-wide)
Certifications Required: ALS, ATLS, APLS (all in-date)
Key Responsibilities
• Lead assessment, stabilisation, and management of acutely unwell or injured patients across the ED.
• Participate in trauma calls, major incidents, and resuscitation leadership.
• Provide senior decision making for majors, resus, and rapid assessment areas.
• Supervise and support SHOs, FY2s, and medical students.
• Liaise with inpatient specialties for referrals and admissions.
• Contribute to departmental audits, teaching, and quality improvement.
• Work a full shift rota including days, lates, twilights, nights, and weekends
Essential Requirements
• GMC registration with licence to practise.
• Minimum 3 years post graduate experience, including significant Emergency Medicine exposure at ST3+ level.
• In-date ALS, ATLS, APLS certifications (mandatory for many Trusts and agencies).
• Right to work in the UK.
• Recent NHS experience (often minimum 6 months).
• Updated CV, references, and DBS.
Desirable:
• MRCEM / FRCEM exams or equivalent.
• Experience in major trauma centres.
• Evidence of teaching, audit, or governance involvement.
Clinical Areas Covered
• Resuscitation (adult & paediatric)
• Majors (medical, surgical, trauma)
• Minors / Urgent Care
• Paediatric ED
• Rapid Assessment / Same Day Emergency Care
• Trauma Team participation and leadership
Rota & Working Pattern
• Full shift pattern: days, lates, twilights, nights, weekends.
• 45–50 hours per week typical for full-time locums.
• Flexible ad hoc or block bookings depending on Trust needs.
