Job Title: SEMH Teacher of Music and Creative Digital Technologies

Location: Ipswich

Start Date: Immediate

Salary: £150 - £220

JOB PURPOSE

To support the aims of the school and Trust by delivering high-quality education within a caring, professional environment. Staff are expected to secure good or better outcomes for all pupils and contribute to continuous school improvement.

This role includes responsibility for developing Music, Creative Digital Technologies and the wider creative arts offer, including enrichment and community partnerships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities
  • Contribute to school improvement and self-evaluation.


  • Uphold school policies, safeguarding and behaviour systems.


  • Support pupils’ pastoral and wellbeing needs.


  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and deploy support staff effectively.


  • Maintain high-quality learning environments.


  • Participate fully in school life, including assemblies and enrichment.


    Teaching & Curriculum (Music & Creative Digital Technologies)
    • Plan and deliver high-quality Music teaching (KS3–KS4), adapted for pupils with SEMH/SEND.


    • Contribute to a sequenced curriculum including performance, composition, listening and music technology.


    • Use music and digital tools to support engagement, emotional regulation and wellbeing.


    • Teach a second subject (e.g. IT/Creative Technologies) where appropriate.


    • Use assessment to inform planning and secure meaningful qualifications and post-16 pathways.


    • Provide pastoral support as a form tutor and work closely with families and external agencies.


      Enrichment & Community
      • Lead and develop the school’s wider music and creative arts provision.


      • Build partnerships with music hubs, arts organisations and creative professionals.


      • Coordinate performances, workshops, accreditation pathways and enrichment opportunities.


      • Promote inclusive access to creative opportunities and support progression beyond school.


        Professional Responsibilities
        • Maintain confidentiality and high professional standards.


        • Engage in CPD and appraisal.


        • Promote safeguarding and pupil welfare at all times (Enhanced DBS required).


        • Act as an ambassador for the school and Trust.


          This role may include additional reasonable duties as directed by school leadership.

          PERSON SPECIFICATION (Summary)

          Essential
          • Qualified Teacher Status.


          • Degree in Music, Music Technology or related subject.


          • Experience teaching Music at secondary level.


          • Strong understanding of SEMH/SEND and inclusive practice.


          • Effective behaviour management and relationship-building skills.


          • Ability to use music and creative technologies to engage and inspire pupils.


          • Commitment to safeguarding, equality and continuous professional development.


            Desirable
            • Experience in SEMH/SEND or alternative provision settings.


            • Experience teaching music technology or a second subject (e.g. IT/Creative Technologies).


            • Experience leading enrichment, performances or partnerships.


            • Skills in digital music production and creative software.
